adaptation of the first movement for smaller string section, with (at least) 4-6 second violins, 4 violas, 4 violoncellos and (at least) 2 double basses.
– The material consists of entirely new string parts (except Violino I) for the first movement, to be used together with the original orchestral material. The intention is to avoid that any melody us played by less than three players and thereby to create a richer string sound in this movement. The added second violin part is used in a way that it will not take over the colour, only make the sound fuller. This adaptation/arrangement is made for precisely four violas and four violoncellos (they have individual parts) and is intended for productions in churches and chamber orchestras, where it is not possible to have a larger string section. The rest of the orchestra plays the original parts. There is a separate string score for this adaption/transcription, for rehearsal purpose.
